Hearn in the SUN: West Ham get OS for free
'Despite selling Leyton Orient earlier this year, Hearn uses his Sun column to demand Mayor of London, Boris Johnson tell the taxpayers the deal with West Ham. After being the self styled champion of the small club Hearn seems to be have appointed himself the new champion of all London taxpayers.

He demands “it’s time for Boris to come off the fence and tell us know where all our money has gone and what the deal is” adding “on behalf of all taxpayers we need to know full details of the rental deal with West Ham”

His main claim is West Ham are effectively getting the Stadium rent free by saying “As I understand it, West Ham are paying £15m but are selling Upton Park to developers and allowed to keep the money. Those same rumours are telling me that West Ham are also paying £2m per year rent plus a small share of catering income when the conversion of the Olympic Stadium is complete, hopefully in time for the 2016 season. For a Premier League club that is a minimum rent, especially with the stadium authority paying for the stewarding, police costs, stadium and pitch maintenance if the rumours are to be believed. A quick calculation reveals those costs should come to about £2m per year , so effectively West Ham are getting a freebie”

He added “To make things clear, I am compelled to point out I am not having a pop at West Ham or their fans because they are duty bound to get the best possible deal for themselves and their supporters”'

Well Hearn, maybe you shouldn't have worked together with Spurs to keep us from buying the OS outright. Of course we negotiated the best deal possible for us for being anchor concessionaire, looks like the LLDC didn't have too much bargaining power left once they could only rent out the place.

Of course the LLDC now needs to bear the costs for policing, stewarding and pitch maintenance.
I'm glad though that Hearn is now saying it's not West Ham's fault.
Up to the politicians who allowed this situation to come to this in the first place...

I remember Hearn in front of the House of Lords committee, telling them how the LLDC could keep all the matchday income from catering as money didn't matter to his little community club.

For him apparently it was merely about survival, not money. That's why he was also talking about giving every kid in London, every senior citizen and every member of the forces a free ticket.
Because money didn't matter for Orient.

Then he talked about his dream of promotion with Orient, first to the Championship, then one day to the Premier League. Barry, at what point though does money become important if you want to compete in the Championship or the Premier League.

Hearn, a slippery, unpleasant character who could talk for England all day though. A good talker, but basically a bullshitter and chancer.

and why the fuck shouldn't we keep the money from selling something that we own?

David Gold reacting on Twitter: 'Give it a rest, Barry!'

I wonder if Hearn was still for transparency when it comes to OS financial deals if his lovely, little community club had been agreed to groundshare for a next to nothing rent...

He can't get over the fact that other people for once got a 'deal of the century' without him having his greedy fingers in it...

I'd have nothing against FA Cup semis being played at our gaff...

Better that than fucking Wembley...

Spoils the whole 'Final experience'...

Use ours, Old Trafford, any other large ground...

Won't happen though as it'll be years still before Wembley has been paid for...

Re: Hearn in the SUN: West Ham get OS for free
Read some wonderful suggestions in the Independent about using the OS more and getting money back for the taxpayer without the need for West Ham to groundshare with another football club:

Why not use the OS for Carling Cup or FA Cup semis, for England U21 games or some England Ladies' matches ?

Surely football games can be staged there as long as it's not another team playing ALL their home games there...

Hearn has done more to kill Orient with one final swift decision (selling to Bechetti) than West Ham in the OS could have done over ten years...

The deal regarding the O /S.is a scam and a sham.

Sulli and his companions are mearly willing participants in the game.and just minnows in the deals and wheels.

Re: Hearn in the SUN: West Ham get OS for free
The funny thing is: Hearn selling his club to this dodgy Italian geezer could result in Orient playing in the Conference just when we start playing in the OS.

So much for West Ham being responsible for Orient failing on and off the pitch...

£2m-per-year in rent + £15m in conversation costs = a freebie...

Re: Hearn in the SUN: West Ham get OS for free
Anyone would think there were better options than us, end of the day it's still a viable Athletics Stadium that we are only renting.
We tried to get it built for football originally but that wasn't acceptable to Coe and Jowel, then we tried to part own it with Newham but Spurs, Orient, the media and his dog didn't like that as it was seen as state aid, so now we are mere tenants but still expected to pay the sort of sums that we could build our own purpose built stadium with.

CUNTS!

Hearn originally said its not a football stadium so I would have thought he would be happy to see us playing there.

Orient only just managed a 2:2 draw at home against Coventry today, Orient are officially in a relegation scrap right now.

League Two could be beckoning - that's what you get when you jump into bed with the wrong team...

So, if a business rents premises and its profits cover the rent, they are getting the premises for free?

Re: Hearn in the SUN: West Ham get OS for free
Lucked into it because we wouldn't knock it down and build a proper football ground. Spurs were stupid to not use it for a decade and knock it down they'd have gotten it if they proposed to use it or would be sharing.

But honestly the OS is an impressive stadium and that upper bowl is not very high up and looks to have good views throughout. I sat in the last row of the East and West stands near the Trevor Brooking Stand a year ago and I honestly don't think a seat in the upper bit of the Olympic Stadium will be worse. Lower will be worse but if its not too bad and everyone stands and we play well it might work out.

Re: Hearn in the SUN: West Ham get OS for free
Hypocrite of the highest order, he would have been so happy if Orient had been allowed to groundshare for half a million in rent, playing on Thursday evenings and so forth.

It apparently is only state aid if for a change others get a smashing deal and not him...people like Jowell and Coe are responsible for neglecting a footballing option from the very beginning.

When anyone could have told you that an Olympic Stadium can only survive post-Olympics if you accommodate the most popular sport in the respective country - which in Britain's case is football...

Ah, I get it, it's free if you don't count the capital contribution or the rent.

This man seriously gets on my tits...
Surely having West Ham at the OS saves the building from ending up as a white elephant. Leyton Orient would have had no real hope of making a proper success of it, and why would we want them in our borough?
